5/10/2023 0 Comments Ruby red book series![]() I am not one to usually guess those plot twists (Bart is the plot guesser in our relationship), but this one? Either it’s really obvious or I’m just getting smarter. ![]() ![]() Not enough for me to give it up, but enough to take note that it’s not the most amazingly written book you’ll ever read.Īnd, there’s this big “surprise” that’s revealed at the very end, which I called halfway through the book. Ruby Red, though, I definitely noticed the writing. I know everyone loves to trash on Twilight for being poorly written, but frankly, I never noticed (clear proof that I am a serious student of literature, etc). If you’re picky about writing, this book may bother you a bit (it’s translated from German). ![]() That didn’t stop me from reading it in about a day and a half. ![]() I am nothing if not prompt.I checked Ruby Red out in Texas, but didn’t manage to get through it before we moved, so it was one of the first books I requested when I got my library card in North Carolina.įirst off, the Ruby Red series is NOT high-quality literature – it’s definitely in the “fluffy YA” pile. So, now in the middle of August, here’s the July book of Tell Me What to Read. ![]()

![]() ![]() It’s pure pleasure to watch Poirot pick his way through the testimony and solve the crime. It will be very instructive!”Īnd it is, of course. “That,” says Poirot, “is what I am counting upon. ![]() And after all this time! Why, you’ll hear five accounts of five separate murders!” The five other people who were in the house that day are still alive, and as Poirot investigates each of them, he can’t get the nursery rhyme “Five Little Pigs” out of his head - you know, the one that starts “This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed home.”Ī local policeman, exasperated with Poirot’s technique, tells him, “Don’t you grasp the elementary fact? No two people remember a thing in the same order anyway. More than a decade after Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her husband and died in prison, her daughter, Carla - never convinced of her mother’s guilt - asks Poirot to look into the case. ![]() “Five Little Pigs,” I think, which is Poirot’s most cerebral outing. ![]() 5/9/2023 0 Comments Pike tm frazier![]() ![]() But he was always eager to set out on his own. The five Daniels children, of whom Terry is the oldest, were often asked by friends if they had any connection to the green Daniels Fuel trucks that drove through town. But the greatest night of Terry Daniels’s life pushed him in another direction-six more years of full-time boxing, with few victories to show for the brutal pounding taken by his head.Īs a young man, Daniels was an unlikely candidate for a life in the ring. The predictable path for someone of his background and education would have been to fight for a few more years at most and then settle into a conventional career. Before that night, Daniels was a talented young boxer who had put college on hold, but he was hardly a major contender. ![]() But the night when Daniels faced the world’s heavyweight champion in New Orleans is intimately connected to his present circumstance. It’s a long fall from cloud nine to a ground-floor unit in Breckenridge Village. “I stumble from one chair to the next,” he says with a sheepish grin. Terry says he uses a walker when he’s alone in the apartment. During our visit, Jeff often helps his brother walk, gently placing a hand on his arm. ![]() 5/9/2023 0 Comments Oz by Eric Shanower![]() The number of non-literary adaptations decrease rapidly the further into the sequels you look, with almost none after the third novel, although elements from later novels do frequently appear in adaptations of the earlier novels. ![]() It has since been adapted numerous times, in nearly every conceivable medium, including a 1939 film musical that for many people is more familiar than the original novel most film adaptations these days will at least allude to the 1939 film in some way, although copyright makes this tricky. The secondary characters in Alex’s family are fantastic and reminded me of many of my own family trips together. Alex and Rory are a match made in a theme park and their love at first sight was no corny joke.
